paradise bay water park LOMBARD WAVES Swim Team Lombard Park District's Waves Swim Team offers training and practice groups for swimmers of all ages and ability levels. The Waves' coaching staff focuses on building swimmer skills, teamwork, enjoyment of the sport and participation in competitive swimming. The team will challenge each swimmer and develop them to the best of their abilities. Competitions include virtual swim meets every week during the swim team summer season. Parent volunteers will be required to work at home swim meets. Parents may sign up to volunteer through parent meetings and online at beginning of the season at lombardwaves.com. Team suits and swim caps are NOT required for the 2021 season. Goggles are required. These items will be available for purchase prior to the start of the season. Please note: Lombard Waves Swim Team is NOT a swim lesson program. Swimmers who are not yet ready to join Lombard Waves Swim Team should consider enrolling in Lombard Swim School. Swimmers will need to swim a minimum of 25 yards of freestyle and backstroke. Children ages 9+ will need to be able to swim a minimum of 50 yards of freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke and butterfly. Lombard Waves Swim Team pool safety protocol Staff is closely monitoring updates and following guidelines from the Illinois Department of Public Health and DuPage County Health Department. Phase 5 is anticipated to begin in time for our regular season Opening Day on June 12. Swimmers are encouraged to arrive at Paradise Bay Water Park dressed in their swim attire and ready for class. If you or your child are displaying symptoms of COVID-19, please stay home. Masks are not required for fully vaccinated individuals. Visitors who are not fully vaccinated should wear a face covering while they are not engaging in swimming activities. This applies when social distancing cannot be maintained outdoors, while moving throughout the facility for non-swimming activities and while inside facility locker rooms. Exceptions include children under 2 and individuals with medical conditions or disabilities that prevent them from safely wearing a face covering. Paradise Bay Water Park requests that patrons review the Wellness Screening Questionnaire located on page 5 of the activity guide and outside Paradise Bay prior to entering the facility. swim team coach pam forsberg, swim team coach 2fors8@gmail.com Lombard Waves Swim Team age groups Ages 8 & Under: Swimmers should be able to swim one length of the pool freestyle and backstroke. Compete in 25-yard events of butterfly, backstroke, breaststroke and freestyle, 50 freestyle and team relays. Focuses on building proper technique in backstroke and freestyle, learning all four strokes with dives and flip-turns. Advanced 8-year-olds may learn about legal individual medleys and build endurance. Swimmers will be paired with a Waves Swim Team buddy. Ages 9-10: This age group will focus on swimming all four competitive strokes efficiently and legally. Swimmers work towards swimming a legal 100-yard individual medley within the season. Compete in 50-yard events of butterfly, backstroke, breaststroke and freestyle, 100 freestyle, 100 IM and team relays. Swimmers will build endurance, perfect their stroke technique, and further develop starts and turns. Ages 11-12: Swimmers should expect to improve on training endurance. Compete in 50-yard events of butterfly, backstroke, breaststroke and freestyle, 100 freestyle, 100 IM and team relays. Practices include technique work to improve strokes, turns and racing starts. Swimmers will be placed in groups based on ability and work toward efficiently swimming 100 IM. Ages 13-14 & 15+: This age group will train together, grouped based on individual ability. Compete in 50- yard events of butterfly, backstroke, breaststroke and freestyle, 100 freestyle, 100 IM and team relays. Athletes joining this group will require a greater desire and commitment to swim training. Training and personal development will have a larger emphasis over technique. Swimmers will set goals, play games and be assigned a Lombard Waves Swim Teammate to support and cheer for at meets.
