44 /lombardparks YOUTH & TEEN CHESS SCHOLARS WINTER BREAK CAMP (Ages 5-12) This camp is designed for both beginners and experienced young players. All participants will learn cool new strategies at the appropriate level from a renowned Chess Scholars coach. Each class will consist of a fun interacting teaching period and guided practice time. Children will have an opportunity to test for a Chess Belt under a unique Chess Scholars system patterned after martial arts belts. There will also be a chess competition with prizes. Each camper will take home a chess set and award. Please bring your own snacks. Explore the field of robotics through a series of exciting and dynamic lessons. Students will learn about mechanical engineering as they construct and use robots to complete tasks and engage in competitions. A variety of topics will be covered including gear ratios, electricity, rotation, friction, and force. This course gives students the opportunity to experience the captivating world of robotics in an inviting and fun environment. No previous experience is necessary; both new and returning participants are welcome! Each participant will receive an award on the last day of the session, and will have the opportunity to earn Energy Belts by demonstrating their learned skills. Equipped with RoboThink's innovative kits, use motors, sensors, gears and mainboards to build robot creations of all shapes, sizes and functions! Each session, students are introduced to engineering concepts through our trained instructors and picture-based lesson plans. Students apply these concepts to solve challenges, provide solutions to problems, and build creative robots in a fun environment.RoboThink's lesson plans and STEM curriculum are designed by teachers and engineers. This activity is interactive, hands-on and engaging to promote learning in a fun way! No prior experience necessary.
