THE BEATLES HISTORY IN 1 HOUR
(Ages 55+)
Join us for a fun lunch n' learn at Lexington Square. Adjunct professor and
music/history buff Gary Wenstup will dive into the history of one of the world's
most beloved bands. As a musical entity, The Beatles have not existed for close
to 50 years, yet their story, personalities and music continue to influence our
culture and expectations of popular music. With the use of audio and visual
content, we'll trace the arc of the Beatles career from development in Liverpool,
through Beatlemania into their psychedelic phase and conclude with the band's
dissolution. Participants will have an appreciation for the Beatles incredible
productivity, musical and lyrical maturity and cultural impact. Lunch will be
provided. If Lexington Square is too far for you to drive, please contact Katie
Manheim at 630-620-7322 to arrange complimentary transportation to and
from Sunset Knoll Recreation Center.

Come and immerse yourself in the art of beautiful writing! Using a dip pen and
ink, beginning students will explore Medieval alphabets like Uncial and Gothic
Blackletter, then progress to the intermediate course with Italic, Roman Capitals,
and Modern Brush Lettering. Courses devote time to design application with
small projects like greeting cards, stationary, paper painting, and writing in color.
A supply kit may be purchased from the instructor for $15 on the first day of
class.

BOAT TOUR & MRS. LINCOLN'S TEA

Step back into 1848 with a period-clothed boat crew and two friendly mules
guiding you along the historic Illinois & Michigan Canal for an hour-long ride.
After the ride, we will join Mrs. Lincoln for tea. She will regale us with stories
of her courtship and marriage to Mr. Lincoln as well as their trip down the I&M
Canal. Our tea will include classic scones with jam and Devonshire Cream,
savory tea sandwiches, sweets, and a variety of teas. We will have time after
lunch for a stop in the Visitor Center that features additional information about
the I&M Canal and a gift shop.

ODYSSEY RIVER CRUISE

Board the European-inspired ship, fully glass-enclosed, to see the city from a
whole new perspective. The single level, climate-controlled boat will ply the
waters of the Chicago River, offering 360-degree views of the surrounding
architecture. Enjoy an upscale three-course plated lunch and entertainment
while you sit back and relax as Chicago's famous skyline drifts past your window!
Entree selection of jumbo forest mushroom ravioli, oven roasted frenched
chicken breast with rosemary & thyme, oven baked fresh Atlantic salmon filet,
or braised beef short rib will be made on board. Menu is subject to change. Also,
enjoy a live DJ and outer deck access.
