Districtwide Comprehensive Master Plan 49 Inventory and Analysis Chapter Summary An extensive Inventory and Analysis was conducted to gather information on the Lombard Park District's existing assets, resources, and off erings. The planning team prepared detailed maps of the parks and existing conditions; identifi ed all park land, open space, schools, trails and relative adjacent land uses; and classifi ed all park land based on standards, size, location and amenities. In addition, an inventory of all facilities was conducted, including detailed size calculations to determine overall indoor recreation space. Using this information, an analysis was completed to determine how well the Park District's parks and facilities are meeting the needs of the existing population, compared to recommended state and national standards. The Level of Service analysis for the existing population indicates the Park District does not meet the Level of Service for mini or community parks, but when overlaid with neighborhood parks, all parks work together to service the District well. It can be concluded from these two measurement methods, that the Lombard Park District has excellent service area coverage from its parks distribution, once connected with a trail system and safe roadway crossings. Although there is defi ciency of acreage for almost all park types within the District when natural areas and the golf course are not included within the calculation. The Park District recognizes the limited opportunities to acquire large areas of open space for new parks, but may consider acquisitions as opportunities arise. The Level of Service analysis also illustrates that the Park District does not meet the planning standard for indoor recreation space square footage. This, in combination with the aging Sunset Knoll Recreation Center, creates an immediate case for new, expanded indoor recreation space. In terms of programming, the Park District is in an excellent position in the marketplace in Lombard with an almost 2:1 margin of participation in recreation programs and services. Lombard off ers a well-balanced distribution of programs among all age groups and pricing seems right in line with neighboring districts.
