Western Acres includes a regulation 9-hole - 3,016 yard course that resides outside of the Park District boundaries but still within the Village of Lombard. Major course improvements in 1985 included an automatic irrigation system and the construction of additional water hazards. These improvements enhanced the beauty and challenge of the course. An additional 40 acres north of the course were purchased later with hopes of future development opportunities. Four Seasons is the home to the Lombard Log Cabin, an authentic cabin built as Lombard's Bicentennial Project and donated to the District in 1976. Since the 1970s the Park District as acquired and leased more properties to bring its park property total to 17 parks, 2 natural areas, and the 9-hole golf course known as Western Acres. Today the Lombard Park District consists of about 450 acres of land, including the world-renowned 8.5 acre horticultural showcase of Lilacia Park. Recognized as a successful park district, the Lombard Park District was awarded the Distinguished Agency Award from the Illinois Association of Park Districts and the Illinois Park and Recreation Association in 1995 and again in 2001. In 2009, the Lombard Park District was awarded the coveted National Gold Medal in Excellence in Park and Recreation from the American Academy for Park and Recreation Administration and the National Park and Recreation Association. In 2013, the Government Finance Offi cers Association of the United States and Canada announced they had awarded the District with the GFOA's Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for its annual operating budget. The Lombard Park District continues to improve and beautify their many parks as well as expand their recreation programs and special events in order to provide residents with the best parks and recreation programs possible Staffi ng and Structure The Park District currently employs 31 full-time employees, and up to 450 part-time and seasonal employees reporting directly to 5 department heads.
