Autumn at Royal Oak
(Ages 55+)
Enjoy a splendid autumn day in the rolling hills of northern Illinois at Royal Oak Farm Orchard near Harvard, IL. Our
time at Royal Oak is highlighted with a fun tractor-drawn wagon ride through the colorful apple orchards. Learn the
history of the farm, the varieties of apples, the irrigation and pest management systems, and the importance of bee
pollination narrated by one of Royal Oak's knowledgeable guides. Shop in the Country Market, Apple Barn and Bakery
to bring home some tasty treats including fresh picked apples, cider donuts, and their famous apple cider. A delicious
lunch is included at the orchard's cafeteria-style Country Kitchen Restaurant.

Route 66, An American Icon!
(Ages 55+)
Trail blaze an American icon as we explore a portion of America's Route 66! John Weiss, a renown author of Route 66
books and expert guide, provides a fascinating tour of the scenic byway and roadside attractions to Pontiac, IL. After
a stop at the Route 66 Visitor Center in Joliet, we'll journey south to Wilmington to see famous sights such as the
Gemini Giant, Eagle Hotel and Milltown Market to stop for coffee and rolls. In Gardner, IL we'll visit the 1906 two-cell
jail and a historic streetcar diner. In Dwight, IL we'll see the 1933 Ambler-Beckler Texaco gas station, once the longest
operating station on the entire 2,448-mile stretch of Route 66. Enjoy lunch at the Old Route 66 Café, a family-owned
restaurant filled with nostalgic memorabilia. Next, we'll head to Odell, IL to tour the old Standard Oil Station, listed on
the National Register of Historic Places. In Pontiac, IL, we'll tour the Route 66 Hall of Fame and Museum. Visitors will
learn the story of people and places firmly entrenched as a part of Americana. We'll also see Murals on Main Street,
a unique assortment of outdoor murals, and the Pontiac-Oakland Auto Museum for a glimpse of the autos that once
traveled the highway. Heading back north, we'll stop for a treat at the famed Polk-A-Dot Diner in Braidwood, IL and
see statues of Elvis, Marilyn Monroe, James Dean and the Blues Brothers! Relive the freedom, passion and spirit Route
66 once gave America!
