page 39 youth athletics GIRLS LACROSSE LEAGUE (Grades 3-9) The Park District is teaming with the Illinois Girls Lacrosse Association (IGLA) and Glen Ellyn Park District to offer girls the opportunity to play the fastest growing sport in the US! The goals of the program are to teach the rules of lacrosse, active teamwork, sportsmanship, and fostering personal development in a respectful environment led by positive coaching. All players will receive equal playing time. For completing registration, Step 1 is registering through LPD, and then visit www.iglax.org and click the registration tab to complete Steps 2 & 3 of the process. Participants must bring paid receipt to first practice in order to participate. Required items: Goggles, stick, mouth guard. The emphasis is on individual ball skills. Professional trainers and coaches from the Firebirds Soccer Club will lead instruction. Players must wear shin guards and bring a water bottle and ball to each session. All participants must be signed in by an adult. Fee: $2.00/hr Time: 1:30-3:30pm Location: Pleasant Lane School October 14 (Columbus Day) November 11 (Veterans' Day) November 25, 26, 27 (Thanksgiving Break) December 23 (Winter Break) { PRIVATE LESSONS ALSO YOUTH TENNIS LESSONS AVAILABLE - SEE PAGE 46} (Ages 4-12) Grab your rackets and get active with our Instructional Tennis Lessons program! Our knowledgeable and enthusiastic instructors will teach your child tennis basics, and help the more experienced player further their tennis skills. Players must supply their own rackets. Rackets are available for purchase for $18 at SKRC. Tennis balls are supplied. Classes may be adjusted, cancelled, or combined. Instructors may move participants to a different level if necessary. Classes cancelled due to weather will be made up on Mondays, Fridays or the third Saturday in the session. In case of inclement weather, please call the Sports Hotline (630) 415-3479 after 4:00pm. Levels: Pee-Wee - Children will be introduced to tennis with equipment suitable to their size. Beginner - The class emphasizes ball control and basic strokes, regardless of previous experience. Advanced Beginner - Children review basic skills and focus on footwork and the overhead serve.
