BASIC PUPPETRY (Ages 3-5) In this introductory class, we will create characters using simple puppet making and learn to design characters and stories around these new beings. An extension of play and a great way to introduce children to drama. There will be a short performance for families on the final day of class. Auditions are required in order to be a part of the cast. This will allow us to assess the comfort level of children as performers, evaluate their skills and find the role that will best suit their personality and talent. There is no cost to audition. Children will be seen in small groups during their audition time slot. They will be asked to sing 16 bars (measures of music) of a musical theatre song, to learn a short dance with their group and perform it, and possibly to read short scenes from the script (called sides). They will fill out a short audition form listing their possible conflicts and any previous experience, and will have a digital photograph taken for the artistic staff's reference during casting. Casting will be based on availability, ability and attitude. Cast members will be enrolled in the program as a class and must pay a participation fee. This fee covers professional instruction throughout the process, a copy of the script which performers may keep, a cast t-shirt, and production costs.
