52 AUTUMN 2024 ACTIVE ADULT DAY TRIPS INDIANA AMISH COUNTRY (Ages 55+) Enjoy a delightful getaway as we travel to norther Indiana's scenic Amish Country. Upon our arrival near Middlebury, IN, a local guide joins us to take us on a fascinating tour to experience the Amish lifestyle. These Amish backroads meander between its beautiful lakes dotted with farms, markets and small shops as the sounds of horses pulling buggies fill the air. See the quaint family owned homespun businesses such as Amish woodworkers, a bakery, quilters, popcorn makers and other Amish country stores. Several stops will be made to see these local treasures. A highlight of your day will be at lunch, when we visit an Amish family home where you are treated to fine hospitality and a fabulous and delicious home-cooked Amish Thresher meal! The Sainte Genevieve riverboat is North Central Illinois' newest attraction which arrived in 2023 to sail on one of the most scenic stretches the river has to offer. The 3-hour cruise departs from Starved Rock State Park and travels upriver to historic downtown Ottawa. Along the way we'll sail beneath legendary Starved Rock and through the locks where you will witness the fascinating process of locking through as you marvel at this impressive engineering feat while learning about river transportation. The relaxing cruise gives you the chance to see the natural beauty along the shoreline as the autumn colors shine brightly. Before we board the Sainte Genevieve, we are treated to a great lunch at the Starved Rock State Park Lodge, built in the 1930s, featuring its iconic log walls and two-sided stone fireplace, overlooking the park. Experience unique "farm to table" cuisine as their chef, a graduate of the Culinary Institute of America, prepares a mouthwatering lunch for the group. Spend some time at Rosewood's new boutique retail shops, where you will find everything from homespun treasures, Christmas gifts and delicious bakery goods. After lunch, step into the new state-of-the-art theater at Rosewood for a cabaret style show performed by the famous local duo of Mark and Gretch Hladish. The show entitled, "Christmas Remembered" features spectacular audio-visual elements as you step back to remember the songs, hymns and Christmas Carols that make the season so magical. In this class, owners and their dogs will learn to work together to find specific odors. This helps dogs develop their natural ability to sniff and problem-solve. Games encourage and fulfill a dog's need for play and enrichment. This class is suitable for dogs of all ages and breeds. Dogs or puppies that have shown aggressive behavior towards other dogs or humans are strictly prohibited from attending. Your dog is required to be crated between turns and must be leashed at all times (a 6-10ft. leash is recommended and flexi leashes are not allowed). Please note: a vaccination record for rabies must be emailed to kmanheim@lombardparks.com, or a copy can be made at Sunset Knoll Recreation Center and must be turned in 48 hours prior to the start of the class.
