AUTUMN AT ROYAL OAK (Ages 55+) Enjoy a splendid autumn day in the rolling hills of northern Illinois at Royal Oak Farm Orchard near Harvard, IL. The time at Royal Oak is highlighted with a fun tractor- drawn wagon ride through the colorful apple orchard where the wagon will stop to let you pick apples to bring home. Learn the history of the farm, the varieties of apples, the irrigation, and pest management systems. Discover the importance of bee pollination narrated by one of Royal Oak's knowledgeable guides. Shop in the Country Market, Apple Barn, and Bakery to bring home some tasty treats including cider donuts, and their famous apple cider. A delicious lunch is included at the orchard's cafeteria-style Country Kitchen Restaurant featuring their signature chicken pot pie! Registration and refund deadline is 08/26. There's no time like Christmas in Chicago! Join us as we celebrate the season. After a late morning departure, we start with a tradition going back more than 75 years as we visit the Museum of Science & Industry's "Christmas Around the World and Holidays of Light." See the museum's grand 45-foot tree which graces the Museum rotunda covered with more than 30,000 twinkling lights and surrounded by more than 50 smaller Christmas trees carefully decorated to represent countries and cultures from around the world. This sparkling display and festival of trees is a true immersion into Christmas, with multiple varieties of ornaments, lights, garlands, dolls and ribbons. Each tree has a description about the decorations and the customs of that country. After a wonderful late lunch at Weber Grill in Chicago's River North visit the colorful Christkindlmarket, the enchanting holiday village at Daley Plaza. Shop for holiday crafts at the most authentic traditional holiday market of its kind outside of Europe. You can also visit Macy's State Street store, the former historic Marshall Field's store to see the traditional holiday windows, the famous Christmas tree or shop for Frango Mints! Later enjoy a narrated, guided tour of the breathtaking Christmas lights including the Magnificent Mile Lights Festival along Michigan Avenue and the Chicago Christmas tree and skating rink at Millennium Park.
