27 activity guide spring 2015 YOUTH ATHLETICS ICE SKATING (Ages 3-4) Center Ice Skating School in Glen Ellyn offers a comprehensive system of ice skating instruction for all ages and ability levels. Participants registering through the Park District receive discounted lessons. For more information, call (630) 790-9696 ext.115. Tots: Progressive levels 1-4 providing ages 3 and 4 with ice orientation, balance, agility, and fun. Pre-Alpha: This class is intended for ages 5-13 with no previous formal instruction. Participants will learn 1 & 2 foot glides, forward & backward Swizzles and the backward wiggle. Teen/Adult Basics: This class is for participants ages 14 & up and will be tailored to individual needs. Hockey Tot 1: Participants ages 3-4 will learn ice coordination, balance, and agility in a fun atmosphere while wearing hockey equipment. Hockey skates and hockey helmet required. Hockey Alpha 1: Participants ages 5-13 with no previous formal instruction will learn basic forward and backward skating while wearing hockey equipment. Hockey skates and hockey helmet are required. Hockey stick optional. Drills for defense, hitting, base running, and throwing will be taught. Outfield, infield, pitching, and catching segments will all be included. Games will be played every day. Let our competitive coaches who have played at the high school and college levels guide you through techniques that can elevate your game. This camp provides a comprehensive baseball experience for boys and softball experience for girls regardless if they are a beginner, intermediate, or advanced player. Get in on this game that will continue to grow in schools. The class will cover various lacrosse techniques, including cradling, scooping, passing, catching, shooting, and goalie skills. Each child should bring a mouth guard to class. Lacrosse sticks will be provided. Instructor: SportsKids Inc. Location: Sunset Knoll Recreation Center Code Day Date Time R/NR Fee 101115-10 Tu 04/14 - 05/19 4:00 - 4:45 pm $50/$60 GIRLS LACROSSE LEAGUE (Ages 8-10) The Park District is teaming with the Illinois Girls Lacrosse Association (IGLA) and Glen Ellyn Park District to offer girls the opportunity to play the fastest growing sport in the US! The goals of the program are to teach the rules of lacrosse, active teamwork, sportsmanship, and fostering personal development in a respectful environment led by positive coaching. All players will receive equal playing time. Register through LPD, and then visit www.iglax.org and click the registration tab to complete Steps 2 & 3 of the process. Participants must bring paid receipt to first practice in order to participate. Required items: goggles, stick, mouth guard. Practices take place on Tuesdays at Hadley Junior High School in Glen Ellyn. Games take place on Sundays (mostly afternoons) at various suburban parks.
