THE QUILT GARDENS OF ELKHART
(Ages 18+)
See our nation's only quilt gardens on northern Indiana's Heritage
Trail. The collection of gardens has been named one of the top 100
events in North America by the American Bus Association 5 years
in a row! See many of the 19 gigantic quilt patterned gardens and
20 hand painted quilt art murals scattered throughout Elkhart
County and the Amish area of Middlebury. A local step-on guide
will join our group to take us on a colorful journey of over 115,000
flowering annuals that replicate contemporary quilt patterns.
Learn about these innovative creations, the master gardeners,
and the standards set to be a part of these attractions. During
the day we make several great stops. Visit Wellfield Botanic
Gardens, to see the fabulous 36-acres of gardens along with
their annual quilt garden. In downtown Elkhart view the "Central
Park Star" quilt garden. At Bonneyville Mill County Park, see
Indiana's oldest grist mill, operating since the mid 1830's along
with the parks quilt garden. In Bristol, a special, most interesting
visit is planned at the County Museum. Enjoy a behind the
scenes tour, "Stitches of Devotion," a hands-on quilt program.
See the inspiration behind the quilt gardens as you examine the
stories of these amazing quilts! Later in Middlebury, see the quilt
gardens at the Essenhaus, and Dutch Country Market. Visit the
magical world of Linton's Enchanted Gardens. This retail outlet
is often called the Disney of Garden Centers! Our lunch today
is in Elkhart at Mario's, known for its fabulous and unique cream
chicken in a basket! No refunds after 06/08.
