44 Youth & Teen SPRING BREAK CHESS SCHOLARS CAMP (Ages 5-12) This camp is designed for both beginners and experienced young players. All participants learn cool new strategies at the appropriate level from a renowned Chess Scholars coach. Each class will consist of a fun interactive teaching period and guided practice time. Children will have an opportunity to test for a Chess Belt® under a unique Chess Scholars system patterned after martial arts belts. There will also be a chess competition with prizes! Each camper will take home a chess set and an award. Please bring your own snacks. Students will improve their problem solving, math, and physics skills-all while engaging in exciting building projects. Each trimester-long unit will focus on a specific area of engineering, like flight, bridge building, and transportation. The unit will culminate in a testing of students' final projects and each student will receive an award for their progress during the unit. Training will be provided in safety, safe play, basic care, first aid, leadership, and professionalism. A safety and first aid kit is available from the instructor for $14. On-line portion of class must be completed before class and is a two year certification. Course fee includes on-line access to digital version of manual and refresher course. The DJ will play all those popular songs and will also take requests. Raffle prizes and give-a-ways will be available. All area youth are invited. Cash only and bring a student ID. Dances are subject to cancellation or early closing depending on attendance at the start of the event. Parent/guardian signature is required for admission to dances. It's a safe place to hang out with your friends and participate in a variety of organized athletics! Staff is available to organize, facilitate and participate in the activities. All participants must stay until Open Gym is over unless previously arranged with parent and staff. No one will be released early unless a parent/ guardian enters the building. The Lombard Park District is open for a day filled with winter fun. Bring your kindergartener through sixth grader to Sunset Knoll Recreation Center where they can participate in crafts, games, group activities and more.
