Section Title 26 /lombardparks LYRICAL CONTEMPORARY (Ages 6-14) This class is a contemporary form of dance that blends ballet, jazz and modern techniques. These classes will include elements such as freedom of expres- sion, interpretation of music, principles of fall and recovery, control, breath and balance. Students will explore self-expression with the use of their own interpretation of music. Lyrical Contemporary I (ages 5-6): younger students will work on basic ballet and jazz technique and linking steps together in a final combination at the end of class. Lyrical Contemporary II (ages 7-9): students will continue to build on their ballet and jazz technique while being introduced to basic modern technique including floor work. They will also be working on the fundamentals of leaps and turns. Lyrical Contemporary III (ages 10-14): students will progress to more advanced ballet, jazz and modern technique as well as focusing on movement and performance quality. Instructor: Rebecca Robertstad Location: Sunset Knoll Recreation Center TURNS, LEAPS & JUMPS (Ages 7-14) This is a technique class designed to assist students in focusing on the turns, jumps, and leaps that dancers perform in Ballet, Jazz and Hip Hop. This specialized class is a way to better your technique when executing basic leaps, pirouettes, and jumps. In this class, we will work on improving balance, flexibility, proper body alignment, and overall strength. All levels of dance are encouraged to join this class! This class will take your dancing to the next level! This is a non-recital class. Instructor: Ashley Silha Location: Sunset Knoll Recreation Center BALLET TECHNIQUE (Ages 8-14) In this class dancers will work on ballet technique while increasing their strength and flexibility through barre and center exercises. Emphasis will also be placed on improving the fundamental execution of turns and leaps. Each class begins with a strong focus on core strengthening exercises and stretches to help improve and increase hip flexibility. Students will work on balancing techniques as well as posture and body placement for successful completion of turns and leg extensions. This class will not participate in the recital. Instructor: Rebecca Robertstad Location: Sunset Knoll Recreation Center JAZZ FUNK (Ages 8-10) A little bit of jazz, a little bit of hip hop; your child will learn or review proper jazz technique and across the floor movements and combinations while mixing in hip hop/street style to make it funky! Instructor: Ashley Silha Location: Sunset Knoll Recreation Center Dance BALLROOM DANCE BEGINNER (Ages 17 +) Discover the fun and wonderful world of ballroom dance in this beginner/ refresher class. It's the perfect class for couples trying to look good on the dance floor for an upcoming event. Even if you think you have two left feet, instructors Dean and Laurie Francis can help you learn the basics and have a great time dancing the fox-trot, waltz, cha-cha, and swing/jitterbug. Their weekly videos on YouTube will help you learn faster and remember the dances week to week. Both partners must be registered. Fee is per person. Ballet shoes required. Instructor: Rebecca Robertstad Location: Sunset Knoll Recreation Center INSPIRE DANCE TEAM (Ages 6-12) Join the award winning Inspire Dance Team! The team competes in local competitions in the spring as well as performing in the annual dance recital. This year, we are excited to offer 3 new teams, Mini Jazz, Junior Lyrical, and Senior Hip Hop. Each team will practice twice a week, once for their routine as well as taking a ballet/jazz tech class to help develop their dance technique. The ballet/jazz tech class is exclusively for Inspire Dance Team members. A discounted class rate will be given to team members for the tech class. In addi- tion to weekly practices, commitment to the team includes the purchase of one costume and warm up jacket. Open auditions for Inspire Dance Team occur in September for the dance season.
