INTRO TO SEED STARTING
(Ages 18+)
Seed starting is the idea of growing your own plants from seeds and then
transplanting them outside in the summer. Led by the Lombard Park District's
Horticulturalist, this class will teach participants how to prep seeds, proper growing
techniques and eventual transplanting techniques. If you're itching to start your
own garden or just want to prepare for spring, this is the class to take! The first part
of class includes a presentation followed by hands-on demonstrations.

SUCCULENT WREATH WORKSHOP

SPRING THROUGH SUMMER CONTAINER WORKSHOP
(Ages 18+)
Design an attractive container of hardy plants to bring color to your outdoor space.
Learn optimal plant combinations, planting techniques, plus how to prune and edit
for the following seasons. This workshop is great for beginners and experienced
gardeners alike. We will supply the 12' planter, however, if you prefer to use our
own, feel free to do so. Planters have to be within 12'. Soil and hardy annuals will
be provided for you to chose from.

DEMYSTIFYING PRUNING FLOWERING SHRUBS
(Ages 18+)
Pruning is the process in which branches of flowering shrubs are cut for health, shape
and to encourage additional growth. This process can be one of the most difficult
and confusing aspects of gardening. The Lombard Park District's Horticulturalist,
who oversees the care of Lilacia Park, will teach participants the fundamentals and
basics of pruning flowering shrubs, including Lilacs, Hydrangeas, Crabapple, Itea,
Dogwood and others. How do you know when they should be pruned and why?
These questions and more will be addressed during this class. The class will start
with general information followed by hands on experience. Please dress for the
weather, class is held outside. Pruning tools will be supplied.

WALKABOUT AT TERRACE VIEW PARK

Join our horticulturalist at the ComEd Garden and learn about design theory, plant
selection, execution, sustainability, maintenance practices and both upfront and
long-term gardening costs. The gardens will be in their fourth growing season. See,
learn and understand the changes in plant material, which plants work and which
ones do not and why. This program will help to answer your garden design questions.

the greenhouse? Did you know that Lilacia has an Oak Meadow with seven of
Illinois' native oaks? Do you want to know about the dragon in the pond? Join our
horticulturalist for a tour and explanation of Lilacia's gardens after the blooms of
Lilacs and tulips have passed and see the many other plants and flowers that make
Lilacia so special. She will answer your questions on design theory, plant selection,
maintenance practices, sustainability and any other questions you may have.
