follow Spring 2014 GIRLS LACROSSE LEAGUE (Grades 3-9) The Park District is teaming with the Illinois Girls Lacrosse Association (IGLA) and Glen Ellyn Park District to offer girls the opportunity to play the fastest growing sport in the US! The goals of the program are to teach the rules of lacrosse, active teamwork, sportsmanship, and fostering personal development in a respectful environment led by positive coaching. All players will receive equal playing time. To join the league, register on lombardparks.com or fill out the District's registration form. Then visit www.iglax.com and click "registration" to complete the registration process. Participants must bring paid receipt to first practice in order to participate. Required items: Goggles, stick, mouth guard. Practices take place on Tuesdays at Hadley Junior High School in Glen Ellyn. Games take place on Sundays (mostly afternoons) at various suburban parks. US Bowling Congress (USBC) certified coaches teach in a relaxed atmosphere using a training program specifically designed for young bowlers. Parents are welcome to attend. The final day of class will include a pizza party! Beginning Learn to Bowl students will receive a free brand new bowling ball with custom drilling! They will learn basic bowling techniques in a fun environment. Advanced Learn to Bowl is for students who have already taken "Beginning Learn to Bowl" and are ready to take their game to the next level! In addition to principles of the beginner class, students will focus on targeting, spare shooting, and release. This unique class will combine stretching, movement, and other fitness concepts with running, jumping, throwing and other skills used in track and field. Hula hoops, jump ropes, parachutes, soft balls, frisbees, hurdles and other equipment will help guide us through fitness activities and track and field events in a safe environment. Boys and girls will work on body coordination, agility, balance, and self-confidence as they participate in Simon Says, Red Light-Green Light, Hoopers and other fitness games as well as sprints, relays, long-distance walking, hurdles, long jump, discus throw and other track and field events. Our fun approach will help little athletes develop a love of being active. The session will conclude with a fun-filled SportKids Track and Field Meet on the last day of class. The program includes an evaluation of each student, as well as a youth volleyball rating. Organized games will be held at the end of each class. Grade levels may be combined based on enrollment numbers.
