41 activity guide winter 2015 STRATEGY FOR KIDS SPRING BREAK CAMP (Ages 5-12) This camp is an exciting opportunity for your child to develop logic, problem solving, and planning skills. Every class, each child will learn two or three new skill-based games (no luck or chance involved!). Both team and individual games will be played. There will also be a tournament with prizes! Designed to be fun and interactive, the first week focuses on powerful first impressions and proper introductions. There's a segment on thank-you note guidelines too. The next class is all about getting rid of bad behaviors during mealtime, along with setting a table and practicing with actual food, utensils, and linens. Share food allergies at time of registration. In Stage Stars children will learn theater terms, play games, and act in short skits. During theater games, students will use their creativity to communicate and improvise. The carefully selected skits are based on folk tales that teach cooperation and positive moral values. Every student will have the opportunity to play at least one lead role per session. Also, Stage Stars participants can earn prizes for identifying and explaining parts of a skit and goals of the characters. Each child will receive a participation award. Parents are invited to attend the final performance on the last day of class! Spring Break camp is offered in session three. Refunds must be completed three business days before the start of class. Amaze family and friends with tricks that involve cards, ropes, coins, mind-reading, and more. While the tricks may appear difficult, you'll discover that they are quick to learn and easy to perform. All materials are provided; each child receives a magic kit to take home. Children are grouped by age and always learn tricks that are age appropriate. New tricks are taught each session. Both new and returning participants will get to the next level under the guidance of an experienced Chess Scholars coach. No previous knowledge of chess is necessary; players of all levels are welcome. Children will have an opportunity to test for a Chess BeltĀ® under a unique Chess Scholars system patterned after martial arts belts. There will also be a chess competition with prizes at the end of the session! Instructor: Chess Scholars Location: Sunset Knoll Recreation Center Code Day Date Time R/NR Fee 407105-01 Sa 02/07 - 03/14 11:00 am - 12:00 pm $75/$85 CHESS SCHOLARS SPRING BREAK CAMP (Ages 5-12) This camp is designed for both beginners and experienced young players. All participants learn cool new strategies at the appropriate level from a renowned Chess Scholars coach. Each class will consist of a fun interactive teaching period and guided practice time. Children will have an opportunity to test for a Chess BeltĀ® under a unique Chess Scholars system patterned after martial arts belts. There will also be a chess competition with prizes! Each camper will take home a chess set and an award. Please bring your own snacks .
